Professor Simon was unique among my professors, because she was the only one who didn’t regard my lack of participation as a flaw or a sign that I was uninterested or had nothing to say. I’ve been doing a series of guest posts (here, here, here, and here) over on PrawfsBlawg concerning what I refer to as “legally blind grading” in law school, i.e., the grading process under which law professors are deprived of information that would match exams with names but under which we can dock or boost students’ grades based upon class participation. I find myself grading easier now that I am a professor. I give more partial credit and give students credit for getting a glimmer of what I want them to learn. But I am still considered a pretty hard grader.
